Looking for Church Website Recommendations

A few of us have been talking for a while about updating our church’s website. I have been digging around looking at other churches’ sites, but I would like to get your recommendations.

Which churches are doing it right? What do you like about their sites? What do you look for in a church website either as a longtime member or as a newcomer trying to find a new church? What do you hate about church websites?

Any and all construction recommendations and suggestions are welcome. Thanks for your input.

  1. The church I go to uses a package that's supposed to be pretty easy to update. Check obuuc.org.

DSM's church, however, has a nice and very clean looking website that I like a lot. immanuelwi.org

One thing they're missing, though, is a page that tells us anything about the staff other than their names.

  2. You can look at ours: fplex.org. It's built around Joomla, an open source content management system.

  3. Last spring I stumbled upon: www.uuccharlotte.org. I didn't spend a lot of time exploring, but fro, what I say, I like it a lot.

Very clean, visually appealing, and simple to navigate. There is also a lot of content on there, which is hard to do without making a site seem unfocused/cluttered/unwelcoming to newcomers...but somehow, it looks like they may have done it.

  4. Please check out page at www.IEDay.net/design - a self-assessment tool for church sites, which also includes links to good sites.
