Belated Birthday Gift

My father just showed up with the most awesome belated birthday gift: a bb gun.

As a child, I was a total tomboy and obsessed with cowboys. I wanted a bb gun more than almost anything in the world, except for maybe a horse, and Star Wars toys too but you get the point. My mother did not allow even toy guns in the house because they were violent. My nephew is 12 years younger than me and when I was a teenager my parents BOUGHT HIM A BB GUN! You can imagine my outrage, my teenaged assurance that life was TOTALLY UNFAIR.

I may have brought this story up a few hundred times in the last 20 or so years. So today, my father presented me with my very own bb gun. I don't think I will actually use it as much as my 9-year old self would have, but I love his sense of humor. As a footnote, my mother still thinks this is a stupid gift. Sometimes you just gotta' love your family.

  1. I would say that the BB gun is one of those presents that fall into the -

    "It's the thought that counts."

category. I does seem to be quite thoughtful of your father to somewhat belatedly give you *that* particular birthday present. For the record I think that 9 is a bit young to have a BB gun anyway, certainly not one without close parental supervision. Hopefully your Dad thinks that you're mature enough to responsibly handle your BB gun without parental supervision now. ;-)

  2. Well my dad bought me a BB guy when I was a child. I shot sparrows with it. It did not seem to have enough heft to fell the starlings in Schuyler County New York where I grew up.

I am no longer legally qualified to own a gun due to the fact that I am a mental health consumer. When I recover from my schizoaffective disorder I will probably run for president of the Knighted States and regal NRA members with tales from my childhood experiences with BB guns. Got to love the dad gum things.

  3. No my dad didn't buy me a BB guy when I was a child, he bought me a BB gun. Missed that one.
Maybe the starlings digested that BB.
